RMIT UNIVERSITY BUILDING 9

RMIT UNIVERSITY BUILDING 9

CLIENT:

RMIT University

LOCATION:

Melbourne CBD, VIC

DURATION:

92 weeks

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

After a mutually successful association with RMIT that spans more than 10 years and 30 individual projects, APM Group was awarded the job of extending RMIT's 1940's heritage listed Building 9, with works to be undertaken over the existing operational teaching and research facility. This required detailed planning and programming, working closely with the University to manage noise and waterproofing issues throughout construction.

During construction, the project was expanded to integrate fit-out across all levels and the complete upgrade of existing services. Significant environmental initiatives were successfully incorporated by APM throughout the project including rainwater harvesting for re-use and a sophisticated building management systems for lighting control and controlling mechanical services that utilise chilled-beam technology.

The project was recently recognised at the AIAA awards, winning the Public Buildings Alterations and Additions - Architecture Award & Heritage Buildings - John George Knight Award.
