The Northcote housing estate provides high quality homes for elderly people eligible for public housing. The new development comprises 47 one-bedroom units, a flexi-room for storage or temporary carer accommodation, resident common room, workshop, and 20 on-site car parking spaces.
Units were designed to maximise solar access while minimising overlooking to adjoining properties. New onsite facilities for residents include a common room, workshop, garden and central courtyard and on-site car parking meets the needs of the elderly while improving resident security. Environmentally sustainable design initiatives include natural lighting to public spaces, cross ventilation for cooling, on-site rainwater storage and reticulation to garden areas, toilets and washing machines, solar preheating of hot water and a minimum 6-star energy rating to all units.
